Teenager has operation in two hospitals at same time

Post by Martyn20 on Wed Nov 16, 2011 4:49 am

A schoolboy has undergone pioneering cancer therapy that involved removing and treating part of his leg in another hospital. Matthew Willey, 15, was warned he might lose his limb entirely before he was diagnosed with a rare bone cancer.

But surgeons were able to remove a 30cm (12 ins) piece of bone from his shin for radiotherapy at another hospital before reinserting the bone while Matthew was still on the operating table.
